Architect
Designed by recently graduated Benjamin Marks, The Green Room occupies the site of Coin Street’s former office, which in 2011-12, Ben with fellow architecture student Matt Atkins and other volunteers jointly dismantled, redesigned and rebuilt for the Oasis charity in Stockwell.
The Green Room’s transparent façade creates a strong connection across the garden and Upper Ground to the National Theatre. Views are framed through a series of granite columns made from repurposed paving stones commonly found underfoot throughout London. The rough surface of the stone recalls the textures of nearby brutalist buildings, while in contrast a lightweight timber structure encloses the space.
